Pump rooms and springs of small spa towns
Wysowa-Zdrój and Horyniec-Zdrój side by side: a building recreated in 2006 and the memory of structures that, according to the material, no longer exist. No ranking of waters and no health advice.
Without JavaScript you see all three situations one after another, below the drawings of both places. The selection buttons appear when the script is running.

Wysowa-Zdrój
pump room opened in November 2006
- arcade supported on posts (entrance)
- interior, where the municipality’s description places five waters
- semicircular covered terrace (rest)
Illustrative diagram by the page’s author, not a survey drawing. The number of posts, the proportions and the position of the doors do not come from the source. The strip beneath the building is the Spa Park, not to scale.
Situation: Entrance
A building with an arcade on posts
2006year the rebuilt pump room was put into use
From the material The municipality’s description (as carried over from V2): the pump room was opened in November 2006, its form recreates an earlier wooden building, and the arcade rests on posts.
Missing from the material The position of the doors, steps and ramp. The drawing does not show them.
To check Accessibility of the entrance and opening hours: from the operator, on the day of the visit.
One building, five names of waters
1 : 5building : names of waters in the municipality’s description
- Henryk
- Franciszek
- Anna
- Józef II
- Słone (“Salty”)
From the material The five names are names of waters, not five pump room buildings.
Missing from the material Which tap corresponds to which name, and from which intake each water comes.
To check Which waters are served today. The names are not a recommendation to drink or a treatment.
A building in the Spa Park
Spa Parklocation of the pump room according to the description
From the material The pump room stands in the Spa Park, and the semicircular covered terrace is part of its form.
Missing from the material Whether the terrace is used for sitting, how many benches there are, and what the shade and surface are like.
To check The layout of the park and the way to it: on site or from the operator. The page does not plan a walking route.
Where do we actually meet water?
In a building? Under a name on a sign? At a spring that may not be visible at all? Both places answer the same question at once, and where the material is silent, a hatched gap remains.
Horyniec-Zdrój
buildings from several eras
- Poniński pump room, 19th century (no longer exists, according to the GOK)
- Poniński bathing establishment, 19th century (present state: missing from the material)
- Karłowski’s spa establishment, 1928 (present state: missing from the material)
- bathhouse, built 1962, demolished 2000
- springs developed by the Ponińskis (location: missing from the material)
Symbolic board, not a plan or a map. Hatching means: shape unknown. Dashed line: structure that no longer exists; dotted: state or location unknown. The size and arrangement of the fields measure nothing.
Situation: Entrance
There is no entrance, only a trace in documents
—no present-day entrance in the material; the 19th-century pump room no longer exists
From the material The Municipal Cultural Centre (GOK) publishes a photograph of the former Poniński park pump room and describes it as a structure that no longer exists (as carried over from V2).
Missing from the material Any present-day building with an entrance to a pump room, or a water collection point.
To check Whether a pump room or collection point operates in the town today: in municipal sources or from the operator. This page does not settle it.
Springs as the beginning of a story
— : —no data in the material; this is not zero
From the material The GOK attributes to the Ponińskis the discovery and development of the local springs in the 19th century; the pump room and the bathing establishment were further parts of that undertaking.
Missing from the material The names of the waters, the number and location of the springs and their present state. The lack of a list in this material does not mean there are no waters.
To check Information about the history of the springs is not a recommendation to drink or a treatment.
A park that remembers several structures
3 stages19th century · 1928 · 1962–2000
From the material The Poniński pump room and bathing establishment (19th century), Karłowski’s spa establishment (1928), the post-war bathhouse (1962, demolished in 2000). These are separate structures, not one building.
Missing from the material Which structure stood where in the park, what exists today and where one can sit.
To check The current state of the park: from the Horyniec-Zdrój municipality or the operator.
Difference: entrance
Wysowa: the description concerns a building that has existed since 2006. Horyniec: the description concerns a building that no longer exists, and it does not point to a successor.
Difference: contact with the water
Wysowa gives a list of names attached to one building. Horyniec gives the history of how the springs were developed, without a list. The comparison is uneven because the material is uneven; it does not show which water is better.
Difference: resting in the park
Wysowa: the material links the building with the park. Horyniec: it arranges the park in layers of time and is silent about places to rest. This silence is a result of the comparison, not an error in the drawing.
Four words that do not mean the same thing
The most common mistake with small spa towns is to blur the building, the name of the water and the spring into one. Below they are separated, and underneath is a register of terms from the material on both towns.
- Pump room
- A building or place where water is served. One building can serve many waters.
- Name of a water
- The label of a water (e.g. Henryk), not an address and not a building.
- Spring, intake
- The place the water comes from. Which intake stands behind which name has to be stated by an authoritative source; this page does not settle it.
- Establishment, bathhouse
- A bathing or spa structure of a given era. It is not a pump room and should not be equated with one.

Before you go: what to check
This version of the page did not check any practical information, so for every item the date checked is “none”. Dates taken from the documents themselves are given separately and are not a check carried out here.
Whether the pump room is open, and when
Not checked. Ask the pump room operator.

The limits of this page and what changed relative to V2
What the page does not do
- It does not judge which water or which resort is healthier, and it does not recommend drinking or treatment.
- The drawing of Wysowa is an illustrative diagram; the Horyniec board shows no shape at all, because the material does not give one.
- The content comes from material carried over from V2; the sources were neither opened nor re-verified in this version.
- Missing data is shown as a hatched gap or “—”, not as zero.
V2 mechanisms removed
- The planner of walking minutes and breaks has been removed. Without data on routes every distance would be invented, and dividing metres by speed teaches nothing about pump rooms. It has been replaced by the “what to check” list.
- The notebook in browser storage has been removed. Nothing in the topic requires saving, so this page saves nothing. Notes from V2 (key atlas-v2-91) remain in the browser; the page does not read them.
- The ten term buttons were moved into a register with filters. The descriptions “intake operating in the pump room” were dropped, because the material does not confirm the current state.
- The photograph from Wikimedia Commons is not embedded, so that the page works offline; the link remains in the sources.
