The Sosnowa pond: the document only mentions it, the rest is questions
According to an earlier version of the Atlas, the strategy of the village unit (sołectwo) mentions a fire-fighting reservoir; the text of the strategy has not been checked. The material collected contains no measurements, history or technical condition. Click a place on the plate to see what is recorded and what is only a question.
Plate 1 · the pond and its surroundings (schematic)
A schematic, not a photograph or a map. The Atlas's own drawing: no scale, no orientation, no dimensions. The material collected contains no photograph of the pond, so no image has been substituted for one.
solid outline: recorded in the document
dashed outline: element of a typical layout, no record (road: dashed edges of the strip)

Recorded in the document
1. Pond basin
What the document says
The village development strategy lists a fire-fighting reservoir among the village's assets, and the reservoir itself is property of the village unit. It gives no technical parameters or equipment.
What we do not know
The date of construction, former purpose, depth, volume, inspections and current condition.
Open question
Who last measured the depth or cleaned the pond, and when, and was it recorded anywhere?
Who could answer (a suggestion, nobody has been asked)
The village head (sołtys) and village council, minutes of village meetings, a chronicle if one exists, the municipal office.

2. Water intake point
What the document says
According to an earlier version of the Atlas: no mention of a water intake point or of a hard-surfaced spot at the water's edge. To be confirmed in the text of the strategy.
Role on the plate
Shows that water at a pond has to be reachable from the road side. It is a typical element of the layout, not an established fact about Sosnowa.
Open question
Is there a hard-surfaced spot at the water's edge for drawing water, and who maintains it?
Who could answer (a suggestion, nobody has been asked)
The village head, the person responsible for maintaining the pond, an inspection by a qualified person. Assessing suitability for a fire-fighting operation requires such people and current data; this page does not provide it.

3. Access from the fire station
What the document says
According to an earlier version of the Atlas: no mention of access to the pond or of where the fire station stands. To be confirmed in the text of the strategy.
Role on the plate
The road and the building with a dashed outline illustrate only the “equipment – water” relationship. Whether Sosnowa has a fire station and where the access route would run is not established.
Open question
How does one get to the pond, and what is the road surface like at different times of year?
Who could answer (a suggestion, nobody has been asked)
The village head, residents living along the access route, the road manager.

4. Inflow ditch
What the document says
According to an earlier version of the Atlas: no mention of whether, or from where, the pond is fed. To be confirmed in the text of the strategy.
Role on the plate
Shows that a village pond is usually not isolated from its surroundings: something flows into it. On the plate this is a hypothesis, not an observation.
Open question
Is the pond fed by a ditch, a watercourse or drainage, and where does it get its water?
Who could answer (a suggestion, nobody has been asked)
The village head, owners of neighbouring land, a water users' association (spółka wodna) or the municipality, if they keep records of ditches.

5. Monk / outflow
What the document says
According to an earlier version of the Atlas: no mention of damming structures or of an outflow. To be confirmed in the text of the strategy.
Role on the plate
A monk is a structure that regulates the water level in a pond. On the plate it marks a place where water could flow out; it is not known whether such a structure exists in Sosnowa.
Open question
Is there a structure regulating the water level (a monk, a spillway, a pipe), and who operates it?
Who could answer (a suggestion, nobody has been asked)
The village head, the person responsible for maintenance, construction documentation if it has survived.
What is recorded and what is not
This one-page dossier has two short lists. The items on the second list look different on purpose: missing data is not zero and not an assessment.
Recorded according to an earlier version of the Atlas (2)
The strategy of the village unit lists a fire-fighting reservoir.
The reservoir is property of the Sosnowa village unit.
Not in the material collected (9)
date the basin was built
former purpose
inspections and checks
depth and profile of the bed
volume of water
equipment and method of drawing water
effectiveness of water intake
rules and day-to-day maintenance arrangements
photograph of the pond in open repositories
This is a list of gaps, not a timeline: we do not know when anything on it happened, so no item has been given a date.
What is needed to write a full feature (to be commissioned, not done)
a current panorama of the pond with its author and rights,
the village document in its exact wording,
legal reproductions of the chronicle, if one exists,
a conversation with the person responsible for maintenance.
Without them we publish this shorter dossier. The editors do not invent past fires or recollections for dramatic effect.
Where does capacity come from? A model example, not Sosnowa
For Sosnowa there is no figure in litres or cubic metres, and this page does not invent one. It only shows why the product of area and maximum depth (A × H) overstates the volume of a pond with sloping banks.
Model assumptions (from the earlier version, not data about Sosnowa): water surface area at the bank 600 m², sides in a 3:2 ratio (30 × 20 m), maximum depth 1.8 m, identical side slopes on all four sides. A 1:m slope means that for every metre of depth the bank recedes m metres horizontally. Silt is the layer at the bottom.

225.5 m³ less than A × H (20.9%).
Silt at the bottom
153.3 m³ (17.9% of basin volume)
Water above the silt
701.2 m³
Bottom width along the shorter axis: 14.6 m (20.0 m at the top).
Geometric model, with no assessment of water reserves for any operation.
Model schematic. Cross-section along the shorter axis (20 m), one scale for both shapes: 1 m horizontally is 20 drawing units, and vertically the drawing is stretched fourfold so that the slopes are visible. Depth 1.8 m, volume calculated for both axes.

The table is always visible, including without JavaScript. Steep banks leave more water, but the same silt then takes up a larger share of the volume. This is a geometric relationship in the model, not the result of measuring any pond.
Explanation and limits
How to read the plate
A solid outline and the blue “Recorded in the document” tag mark the only element with a record in the material collected (according to an earlier version of the Atlas, to be checked in the text of the strategy): the reservoir.
A dashed outline and the yellow “Not in the material collected” tag mark an element of a typical village layout that is here a question. On the road, the edges of the strip are dashed.
Each open question names who could answer. This is a suggestion; nobody has been asked.
Model formula
Volume of a truncated pyramid with identical side slopes, integrated from the water surface downwards:
V(z) = L·W·z − m·(L+W)·z² + (4/3)·m²·z³
Here L = 30 m, W = 20 m, z = depth. The silt layer is V(H) − V(H − h). The formula was taken from an earlier version of the Atlas and needs independent checking.
What was removed from the earlier version, and why
The seven-parameter calculator (area, depth, slope, silt, buffer, drought, ice) was reduced to two: slope and silt. The rest made up a readiness panel that the lack of measurements does not justify. Ice was also removed because the page should not suggest anything about safety on ice.
The field log of observations saved in the browser was removed: without an editorial process for collecting and checking accounts it was just a notebook. This page saves nothing. If someone saved data in the earlier version (key atlas-v2-135), it remains in their browser; this version neither reads nor deletes it.
The model comparison table was replaced by a simultaneous drawing and three rows of figures.
The “physical” notes on field choices were removed together with the log.
What the page does not do
It does not assess how much water is in the pond in Sosnowa or whether it is enough for fire-fighting. It does not assess access, water intake or ice. A technical assessment requires qualified people and current data.
