Wapienne

Two water intakes, two spa parks, a few facilities and a private centre on 17 ha — that is what fitted into the municipal report and the historical study.

Below are three viewpoints on the same list, one under another; each item states what changes in each of them.

Water

Two names, one class, a different order of constituents

The municipal report describes both intakes as sulphide, weakly mineralised waters. They differ in which of the two cations, calcium or sodium, the report names first.

Order of the main constituents in the report’s classification (HCO₃ = bicarbonates; no numerical values, as the material does not contain them)
Intake1.2.3.
KamilaHCO₃CaNa
MartaHCO₃NaCa

What is missing: the point where water is drawn, access, opening hours. The report is not information on whether water can be drawn, and this page is not health advice.

Garden

Five interiors and routes — and no plan

The report names two spa parks, a graduation tower and a fountain; to these is added the promenade from a 2019 photograph. It is a set of small open-air places. We have no plan or measurements, so there is no drawing of the paths here, and the order on the list is not the order of a walk.

The records are uneven: the graduation tower is a municipal facility, while the report lists the Spa House within the grounds of a sanatorium centre (whether this is the 17 ha centre and whether it is private — to be checked). For the parks and the fountain, the material does not settle this. Season, opening hours and works: to be checked before a visit.

Rebuilding

Of nine items, only one has dates

In the material, the bathing establishment has the year 1848, two fires and two rebuildings. The other eight items have no date for the object (including the promenade, of which only the photograph is dated): they are neither “new” nor “old”, and they do not sit on the axis under the latest year. In the counter this shows as 7 items “undated” plus 1 “date not the object’s” (the promenade).

In this viewpoint the chronology strip at the bottom of the page is highlighted. A gap on it means a lack of entries in the material, not a period without events.

List: nine items

The division into “in focus / in the background / outside” (and the numbers beside the buttons and in the counter) is an editorial choice of this page, not data from the report; only the “From the document” paragraphs are sourced.

Scale: 17 hectares is one square, not the whole village

Diagram of the size of 17 hectares A square with a side of about 412 metres, that is 17 hectares, above a 100-metre scale bar. The actual shape of the centre is unknown; the square illustrates size only.
Our own diagram. The bar below the square = 100 m. The square illustrates the size of 17 ha, not the shape or location of the centre.

The municipal report for 2024 gives 17 ha for a private sanatorium and treatment centre. One hectare is 10,000 m², so 17 ha is 170,000 m²; if it were square, its side would be c. 412 m (the square root of 170,000). We do not know the actual shape.

The spa area is something else: it covers the village units (sołectwa) of Wapienne and Męcina Wielka, and spa-town status was granted on 8 April 1986. Its area is not in the material, so we neither draw it nor enter zero. Nor do we know how many of the parks and facilities lie within these 17 ha.

Timeline of rebuilding 1848–2024

  1. 1848Three villas, 50 bathtubs in 36 cabins.
  2. 1878 and 1894Two fires interrupt development.
  3. 1904–1906Rebuilding of the bathhouses.
  4. 1920–1924Another rebuilding of the bathhouses. V2 linked it to the First World War; this link is to be checked.
  5. 8 April 1986Spa-town status.
  6. 2024Date of the municipal report (17 ha, two village units) — a document, not an event.

Spacing on the strip is proportional to years. The dotted gap 1924–1986 means a lack of entries in the material, not a lack of events. Only dated events appear on the strip; eight items from the list have no date for the object (including the promenade, of which only the photograph is dated), and there is no place for them on the axis.

Limits, and what disappeared from V2

What this page does not do

  • It is not a map or a plan. The layout of the rows does not indicate distance, adjacency or a walking route.
  • The descriptions of waters are not health advice and do not say that the water can be drawn or drunk. Access, opening hours, season and works: to be checked with the municipality or the manager before a visit.
  • The content comes from the V2 material. In this version the sources were not reopened, so the links are pointers for checking, not confirmation.
  • Missing are our own photographs, a consulted plan and a rebuilding document (e.g. a scan).

Removed or changed relative to V2

  • 60-minute calculator (distance, pace, stops): the report does not give the lengths of paths, so the numbers were examples out of thin air. Replaced by three viewpoints on the same list.
  • Notes and saving in the browser: unnecessary. V3 saves nothing; V2 notes may remain in the browser’s storage under the key atlas-v2-92 and are removed in the browser settings.
  • Register and diagram filters: nine rows fit on the screen without filtering. The purpose of the diagram (categories and scale) was taken over by the viewpoints and the 17 ha diagram.
  • Embedded photograph from the internet: replaced by a link, because the page is meant to work offline.
  • Annotations on the timeline with no basis in the material (among them “wooden infrastructure”, “resumption of seasons in 1924”): removed.
